Playstation 3 not working with your external hard drive?

**We are not liable if mistakes are made and hard drives, devices or hardware is damaged.**

Aaron here from Toronto Home Movies – came across some great info that may help you gamers and people using their Playstation 3 for movies, videos and music.

I had clients mentioning that they cannot get their external hard drives to work with their Playstation 3. The main issue with this is Playstation 3 will only support external hard drives that are formatted for FAT32. Unfortunately, the more current, popular file system is NTFS. The problem with FAT32 is it’s a very old file system that is not as stable as the newer NTFS file system. FAT32 is now “abandonware” where-as NTFS is under royalty to Microsoft, therefore, Sony can only support hard drives formatted for FAT32. Also, the Sony Playstation 3 will not work with the current MAC/Apple file system which is HFS.

The problem with FAT32 is that it was never designed to hold more than 32GB. If you have a 500GB or 1TB (1000GB) drive, it is much more unstable than if it were formatted for NTFS and much more prone to fail on you, potentially losing important files. NTFS on the other hand is able to store one single file that is 2TB, or 2000GB in size. Another issue with FAT32, at least if you are using it on your PC, is a hard drive formatted for FAT32 will not support files that are 4GB in size or larger. Video files, specifically, are known to exceed 4GB in one single file. If you are strictly using it for your Playstation 3, that should not affect you in any way.

One MAJOR problem now is that Windows Vista and Windows 7 does not allow you to format a hard drive into the old FAT32 file system through the Windows operating system. You must either A. reformat the drive into FAT32 on a MAC or B. download third party software to reformat the drive accordingly.

One tip if you are planning to reformat your hard drive is to back up all important files onto your computer prior to reformatting the drive. When you reformat the hard drive, all files are deleted and the drive is wiped clean. Another suggestion is, if you have multiple external drives connected to your computer, disconnect all drives except the one you wish to reformat. The LAST thing you want to do is reformat the wrong hard drive by mistake!

One program you can download to make reformatting your hard drive into FAT32 easier is SwissKnife.

Enjoy using your external hard drive with your Playstation 3! I hope this is of some help to you Playstation users. There will be more useful info coming soon!

Computer Vision Syndrome

Computer Vision Syndrome (Click here)

I have noticed since I went over the hill at 40, that I was beginning to have problems with my eyesight. It all happened one morning after I had slept in and was in a hurry to get to work ( I usually walked the 3 miles to work and I didn’t have my car at that time). So on this occasion I had awoke too late to start the trek to my workplace and I was in dire need of a taxi cab. I rushed to my kitchen and grabbed the phone book to get the phone number and when I opened the book up to retrieve it…I couldn’t see a single number.

Was I just getting old? or was it something more serious? I thought maybe, since I was spending a lot of time on the computer working all day and even through the night, this may be part of the problem. Ok I know it has something to do with getting older but this came with more than just reading issues…I was getting regular headaches and my eyes always felt and looked tired. I looked into it and found the problem may be

Computer Vision Syndrome

I found the link above,  online (how Ironic) that may interest you, if you or anyone you know has the same issues. It’s a good read and as well has some fixes for the problem. Maybe one day our computers will be directly connected to our brains so we don’t have to worry about what a monitor can do to our eyes, it will just freak our head out!

Please give this a read and see if you too suffer from the same thing I do.

“Supermoon” Biggest Full Moon in 18 Years Saturday

A full moon sets over Hungary. Photograph by Tamas Ladanyi

It may not be faster than a speeding bullet, but tomorrow the moon will make its closest approach to Earth in 18 years—making the so-called supermoon the biggest full moon in years.

And despite Internet rumors, the impending phenomenon had no influence on the March 11 Japan earthquake and tsunami.

The monthly full moon always looks like a big disk, but because its orbit is egg-shaped, there are times when the moon is at perigee—its shortest distance from Earth in the roughly month long lunar cycle—or at apogee, its farthest distance from Earth.

Likewise, because the size of the moon’s orbit varies slightly, each perigee is not always the same distance away from Earth. Friday’s supermoon will be just 221,566 miles (356,577 kilometers) away from Earth. The last time the full moon approached so close to Earth was in 1993, according to NASA.

The March 19 supermoon, as it’s called, will be visible “pretty much any time during the night,”

“Look for the full moon as it rises above the eastern horizon as the sun sets below the western horizon—it will be a beautiful and inspiring sight. Though the supermoon will be about 20 percent brighter and 15 percent bigger than a regular full moon, the visual effect may be subtle
