Welcome the 2nd annual Toronto Silent Film Festival.
March 30 to April 7
This is an exciting time for Toronto and a great opportunity for everyone to revel in the artistic talents that were necessary and born through the silent film industry. Toronto Silent Film Festival keeps those moments and memories alive by having the love and admiration for these old films enough to keep bringing them to us annually. Those films and their creators became the mentors to all that came after — right down to the technology driven films of today. During this festival we can once again sit in a darkened theatre, some of which are original silent houses, and something magical still happens up on the big screen. It’s hard to describe the wonder of silent films, because to do that, you need words. And as the greats of the Silent Era remind us, talk is cheap: their faces say more than the finest author ever could, and to this day, their power pulses from the screen.
Let the Toronto Silent Film Festival return you to a time when images truly spoke — on the big screen, as they were meant to be seen, and with live accompaniment, as they were meant to be heard. Get out to the sights and sounds of cinema’s original classics and prepare to be taken back to the time when it was imperative to take the audience on a silent journey only by gestures, both face and body. These artists would make you feel a part of each and every scene, just like you were there with them. Now that’s talent extraordinaire! Again, I will say it is something truly amazing that the Toronto Silent Film Festival has the magnitude to bring these films back into our lives to cherish forever and enjoy in good company. There is a full schedule of events and showings that I will post below so you too can make a date and return to the past when Movies were Movies.
*Note: Over 80% of all films have vanished. For what remains, much dedication, money, talent and expertise goes into preserving them and hopefully restoring them to close to their original glory. By showing them to the public, we complete the circle and they live again. Toronto Home Movies is proud to have been a part in the reproduction and restoring of film for the TSFF.

The great Mary Pickford is mostly remembered today as the “girl with the golden curls” who often played children’s roles. But Pickford was much more than that. One of the founders of Hollywood, and one of its’ most powerful figures, she made more than just films, she made history. Here we have a selection of the Toronto born actor’s short films showing her wide range of acting talents.

Great page, super layout, and clear and concise information. It is important that we take the time to preserve this aspect of the arts. This festival is truly an unique opportunity for current fans of these films and those who have yet to experience the delights of the silent screen greats.
